Had a first taste of greyhound racing on Friday night, as an invite to a “works do” at Romford Greyhound Stadium. It was a lot of fun, and with some luck, more economical than a night out in town!

I cycled to three of the six sites on the Essex county card of CTC’s British Cycle Quest today, passing through many quaint villages and small towns en route, including Finchingfield, below.
This is the windmill in Great Bardfield:
Sadly the windmill at Thaxted (one of the sites) only last night was devastated by a sail falling off, supposedly due to rotten wood. Access was restricted, but luckily a friendly surveyor and “local” were on hand to help me answer my Quest question!

Colchester is putting on a lot of events this bank holiday weekend, and one of prominence is the ‘Easter Scavenger Hunt’ in Lion Walk today:
On Monday I will be volunteering with Footprints Theatre Company who are putting on a ‘Cycle and Seek’ around High Woods Country Park. There will be sculptures, poetry, and dancers along the treasure hunt, which promises to be a lot of fun for local families.
Entries made in March.
