July 28

I applied for a Junior website assistant position in Colchester town centre today after seeing it on Fresh Start Recruitment’s website, after seeing it listed in the Yellow Pages. I’m already registered with Fresh Start, since I previously applied for a position at GFM to no avail. This job seems more promising than the last, and unlike all others, is precisely what I want to be doing, so I really hope I get it!

In less serious news, I’ve arranged some more trades with two people I’ve already traded with. Raffael from Germany is sending a CD-R full of mixes, as well as Stevie Hyper D’s album, The Next Step. David from here in the UK is keen to get more tapes with [some good] Shabba and ‘Hyper D on them. Anyone else who enjoys Drum & Bass / Jungle and has plenty of tapes, is encouraged to check out the Tape Trading section to arrange a trade. It’s good for you, it’s good for me.

I’ve been back from Amsterdam since Wednesday, and I’m still missing it. All had a great time [details disclosed (although there’s nothing shameful to hide)], all have some great memories from the 6 days and I hope all would like to go back again. I know I would.

July 13

Tonight will be the last meet up before everyone’s summer hols! Rob is going away on Wednesday, so we thought we ought to meet up for a drink and some pool. If the weather stays like it is so far I think we’ll be outside in the cool rather than inside sweating it out over the pool though!

Less than a week to go, and we’re still not booked up for our holiday to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The travel arrangements have been changed (from Eurostar to Stena Line) and confirmed (the tickets have arrived) but the hotel is still to be booked, which should have been done first. I didn’t get all the money until Friday night, when it was too late to ring up to book, so thought I would wait until Saturday — yesterday — but the Reservation Department isn’t open until Monday!

It’ll all be sorted soon. I guess that’s the main thing. I should probably start making a list of things to take away… I’m really not sure whether the laptop I’m writing this from should be one of them (partly because I’m weary of how secure the hotel is going to be).

For the first time ever I won’t be watching the British GP at Silverstone from Britain! This is my only real concern about the away trip, as it seems most wrong to be watching it abroad, especially since I believe this year’s will be an amazing race. The Dutch are really into their F1, thanks to the somewhat past it Jos Verstappen (dubbed Jos the Boss), so I should be able to find a spot to enjoy the race, even if I have to put up with the Dutch going crazy over a Minardi!

Work at GFM isn’t starting until the 21st unfortunately, which is while I’m away, but at least I’ll have work to look forward to once I’m back though. Mean while in the four days I have left before leaving Friday, I’m hoping to get a temporary position somewhere, perhaps at a factory to get some quick money.

People keep e-mailing asking how much the older tape packs are for sale for… well they’re not! They’re only listed to encourage trading, as the title was meant to suggest!

I did some research into the tape packs that people were keen to buy (Energy 1997 in particular, and others from ‘97 and ‘98) and as expected, they’re still available direct from the promoters. Helter Skelter’s back catalogue can be purchased through mail order or over the phone, while Slammin’ Vinyl has an online store, as you would expect these days.

July 4

Another trade has been completed, and another tape added to the growing mix tape listings. Thanks to Stuart from Bristol for a rare Dreamscape tape; Blackmarket and Randall. Another few trades are being arranged now, so hopefully I will have some more tapes to add soon. I still need to find a 45 min mix to fill the other side of a tape with Frost and Dougal on the flip. It gets annoying to have to rewind it to the beginning each time.

Still no call from Top Job… they said work was expected in July, but we’re not even a week deep so I will wait a while longer before ringing them up again. I’ve rang up another agency in Hampshire for work as a Data Entry Clerk in Colchester(!). It sounded promising, so fingers crossed.

Our short holiday abroad this Summer is all but booked up now. We haven’t gone through travel agencies as we wanted to find the cheapest we could! This means three seperate bookings need to be made; one for the train down to London, another for the Eurostar to Amsterdam and another for the hotel! We were hoping to go around the 18th of July, but that’s fast approaching and I’m not sure we’ll act and get stuff booked in time for that date, but in not so many weeks I will be enjoying life from one of Amsterdam’s famous cafés!
