March 28

The regular Critical Mass London on Friday was a celebratory yet sombre affair, what with the LFGSS Forum birthday bash and the route encorporating the sites of fallen cyclists.

Counts were made and the figure was said to be 620. Certainly the best attended, and most enjoyable I have been to since I started going in September.

Chairman of Wivenhoe Town FC, Carl Callan, called for a protest march from The Station Hotel to its Broad Lane ground after being locked out last week by the Trust. On Thursday the club were awarded an injunction and are back in the ground, but the march went ahead as planned, with a hundred-odd supporters:

Had a very productive day out on Sustrans National Cycle Network Route 1 today with fellow Volunteer Rangers Neil Allen and Paul Avison.

Neil hired a petrol strimmer to cut back undergrowth from Chest Wood, Colchester. Paul and I were on hand to clear up after him and, for Paul, to get it started!

There were a number of dog walkers and cyclists enjoying the route, and towards the end, The Essex and Suffolk Foxhounds descended upon it (along with Hunt Saboteurs), followed by the Police.
