October 16

Had an enjoyable day out at the renowned — and ever expanding — Colchester Zoo yesterday, despite the rotten weather.

Managed to get around all the sections, and only missed out on seeing the meerkats who failed to make an appearance each time I stopped by (I don’t blame them staying in their burrow out of the cold and wet).

Well worth a visit to see the great variety of animals, but be warned: it is on quite a hill!

October 6

In the early hours of this morning a neighbours front door was set alight, just weeks after twelve car windows were randomly smashed on my road.

Despite being in the front room, I was totally unaware and undisturbed by this [and the previous mass] incident, despite the fire brigade being on the scene to tackle the blaze.

Should it have been my front door that was targeted I hate to think when I might have become aware of the impending danger.

Colchester crime is getting worryingly close to home, and it is unprovoked, sinister, and with the very real prospect of deadly consequences.
